Bloom is a video and photo-collage animation created for Leimert Park Metro Station that draws inspiration from the lush gardens of Leimert Park, the neighborhood’s iconic Canary Island Pine trees, and the growth of a new generation of youth in the community. Through live-action video and animation, I explore childhood creativity, play, and community through the hands of local elementary school-aged children as they collaboratively build an imaginative world. The animation is composed of hundreds of photographs I took of neighborhood plants, trees, flowers, and local elements, creating a work that celebrates childhood play and the natural beauty of the neighborhood.
