Roto Drawings emerged while I was creating the video installation Pictured… (Unknown Artist, vol.3), which envisions a virtual artist studio where fictional female artist characters from decades of cinema and television coexist and create together. Each figure is meticulously cut from pre-existing scenes, frame by frame, through a rotoscoping process that mirrors the precision of drawing. As I turned layers on and off, I began noticing intriguing patterns and abstract line work. I captured these fleeting drawings and residual marks through screen grabs. The finished works are collages composed of digital remnants, traces left behind through the removal of figures and objects. The work highlights the invisible labor behind digital art production and foregrounds the digital workspace itself as a site of play, experimentation, and mark-making.

Each collage title is drawn from the names of the female artist characters.
